So far 27 matches have been played in the T20 World Cup 2024 being played in New York and West Indies. Now the picture of the Super 8 is becoming somewhat clear. Australia, India, South Africa, West Indies have qualified for the Super 8 in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 but four qualifiers are yet to be found.
Group A T20 World Cup 2024:
Group A of ICC T20 World Cup 2024 consists of India, USA, Canada, Ireland, Pakistan. In which India has also qualified for the Super 8.
America has won two out of three matches and has to play its last match against Ireland. If Ireland defeats America then America will have four points. Pakistan has won one out of three matches and has to play its last match against Ireland.
If Pakistan wins its last match against Ireland then America and Pakistan will have four points each. Then it will be seen which team has better net run rate and that team will qualify for Super 8.
While Canada and Ireland’s chances of qualifying for the Super 8 are almost nil.
The two teams qualifying from Group A will be India, Pakistan or USA.
Group B T20 World Cup 2024:
Group B in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 consists of teams like Australia, Scotland, Namibia, England and Oman. Australia have qualified for the Super 8s while Namibia and Oman have been eliminated.
Scotland has won two of the three matches played while one match was cancelled due to rain. If Scotland wins its last match against Australia, it will qualify for the Super 8, but if it loses that match, it will have to pray that England loses one of its remaining two matches.
England has lost one of the two matches played and the other was cancelled due to rain. If England wins its remaining two matches, then its total will be five points which is currently equal to Scotland’s points. England would like Scotland to lose its last match against Australia.
If Scotland loses its last match to Australia and England wins its remaining two matches, then both will have five points each and then it will be a matter of net.
The two teams qualifying from Group B will be Australia, England or Scotland.
Group C T20 World Cup 2024:
Group C consists of West Indies, New Zealand, Afghanistan, Papua New Guinea and Uganda. The West Indies cricket team has qualified for the Super 8.
In this group, after West Indies, if any team has the highest chance of qualifying then it is Afghanistan. Afghanistan has played two matches so far in which it has won two out of two matches.
Uganda and Papua New Guinea have almost no chance of qualifying. New Zealand has played two matches so far and has lost both. If New Zealand wins two of its remaining two matches, it will have four points. But New Zealand’s tension is not over yet. It will have to pray that Afghanistan loses two of its remaining two matches.
If this does not happen then Afghanistan will easily qualify for the Super 8.
The two teams qualifying from Group C will be West Indies and Afghanistan.
Group D T20 World Cup 2024:
Group D of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 consists of South Africa, Bangladesh, Netherlands, Nepal and Sri Lanka. In which South Africa has qualified for the Super 8.
Sri Lanka and Nepal’s chances of qualifying for the Super 8 are almost over.
Bangladesh has won two out of three matches. Bangladesh has to play its last match against Nepal. If Bangladesh wins this match then it will have 6 points and will qualify.
The Netherlands team has won one match out of three and lost two. The Netherlands’ last match is against Sri Lanka. If the Netherlands wins this match, it will have four points.
It is very important for Netherlands to win their last match to qualify for Super 8. Netherlands will also have to pray that Bangladesh loses its last match. If Bangladesh loses its last match and Netherlands wins its last match, then both the teams will have four points each and it will be a matter of net run rate, the team with the best net run rate will qualify.
