ICC T20 World Cup: Teams that won matches by 1 run

South Africa continued their winning streak by defeating Nepal by one run. South Africa qualified for the Super 8 by winning four matches.

This feat has happened for the sixth time in the history of T20 World Cup when a team has defeated another team by just one run.

Today we are going to tell you about those teams who won by 1 run in the ICC T20 World Cup.

1) South Africa Vs New Zealand (ICC T20 World Cup 2009)

In the 2009 ICC T20 World Cup, South Africa defeated New Zealand by just one run. Batting first, South Africa scored 128 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 20 overs.

Graeme Smith and Jacques Kallis scored 33 and 24 runs respectively. JP Duminy played a useful innings of 29 runs in 23 balls. For New Zealand, Ian Butler took two wickets and Kyle Mills took one wicket.

Chasing the target of 129 runs, New Zealand could only score 127 runs in 20 overs losing five wickets and lost the match by one run. For New Zealand, Brendon McCullum scored 57 runs in 54 balls and Oram scored 24 runs in 18 balls. South African bowler Dale Steyn took one wicket and Wayne de Merwe took two wickets.

2) New Zealand Vs Pakistan (ICC T20 World Cup 2010)

The 17th match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2010 was played between New Zealand and Pakistan in Barbados. In this match, New Zealand batted first and scored 133 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs.

For New Zealand, Brendon McCullum and Daniel Vettori contributed 33 and 38 runs respectively. For Pakistan, Mohammad Shami, Abdul Rehman and Shahid Afridi took two wickets each.

Chasing the target of 134 runs, Pakistan’s team could only score 132 runs after losing seven wickets. Salman Butt scored 67 and Abdul Razzaq scored 29 runs for Pakistan.

In this exciting match, New Zealand defeated Pakistan by one run.

3) India Vs South Africa (ICC T20 World Cup 2012)

In the 24th match of the 2012 T20 World Cup, India defeated South Africa by one run.

Batting first, India scored 152 runs for 6 wickets in 20 overs with the help of Raina’s 45 runs and Dhoni’s 23 runs. For South Africa, Morne Morkel and Robin Peterson took two wickets each.

In reply to 153, South Africa could only score 151 runs and lost the match by one run. Du Plessis scored the highest score for South Africa. Du Plessis played a brilliant innings of 65 runs in 38 balls but despite this, South Africa lost the match.

4) India vs Bangladesh (ICC T20 World Cup 2016)

In the 2016 T20 World Cup, India defeated Bangladesh by just one run. This match was played at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Batting first, India scored 146 runs in 20 overs for the loss of 7 wickets. In which Kohli scored 24 and Raina scored 30 runs. Mustafizur Rahman and Al Amin took two wickets each for Bangladesh.

Chasing the target of 147 runs, Bangladesh could only make 145 runs at the loss of 9 wickets and lost the match by one run.

Tamim Iqbal scored the most runs for Bangladesh, he contributed 35 runs in 32 balls. Shabbir and Soumya Sarkar played innings of 26 and 21 runs respectively.

For India, Hardik Pandya, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja took two wickets each.

5) Pakistan Vs Zimbabwe (ICC T20 World Cup 2022)

In this match played in Perth, Zimbabwe created history by defeating Pakistan by one run.

Zimbabwe batted first and scored 130 runs for the loss of 8 wickets. Sean Williams scored 31 runs in 28 balls for Zimbabwe. Pakistan bowlers Wasim Junior and Shadab Khan took 4 and 3 wickets respectively.

Chasing the target of 131 runs, Pakistan’s team could only score 129 runs at the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs. Pakistan’s batsman Masood scored 44 runs and Nawaz scored 18 runs. Sikandar Raza took the maximum of three wickets from Zimbabwe’s side.

6) South Africa Vs Nepal (ICC T20 World Cup 2024)

South Africa defeated Nepal by one run in the 31st match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

After losing the toss and batting first, South Africa scored 115 runs in 20 overs losing 7 wickets. For South Africa, Reeza Hendricks scored 43 and Tristan Stumbs scored 27 runs. For Nepal, Kushal Bhurtel took four wickets and Dipendra Singh took three wickets.

Nepal’s team, chasing the target of 116, could only score 114 runs in 20 overs by losing 7 wickets and lost the match by just one run. Asif Sheikh scored 42 runs and Anil Shah scored 27 runs for Nepal.

The Man of the Match award was given to South African bowler Tabrez Shamsi who took four wickets for 19 runs in four overs.
